Special Report: Kerry's Copley Square Rally
Campaign officials say John Kerry is likely to watch the returns from home, and is not expected to arrive at the rally until after 11 p.m. on election night. This gives workers a little extra time to put the finishing touches on the finish line.
Union workers building a massive outdoor stage in Copley Square are turning the neighborhood into a Democratic hub.
Paul Kennedy, Kerry supporter
"I think it's great. I'm all for it. I just hope he wins. That it's not in vain"
Kerry supporters say it won't be. They say he wants this outdoor venue so he can thank as many hometown people as possible.
Justine Griffin, Comm. Dir., Kerry Campaign
"There’s nobody better, nobody stronger. They give the most, they work the hardest, they've gone out nationally to all corners of this country to work and he wants to share this night with them."
The area directly in front of the stage will be filled with family and friends. Everyone else will be on the lawn behind them and security will be tight.
Justine Griffin, Comm. Dir., Kerry Campaign
"There will be magnometers and screening devices in two separate areas of the site. Some for press access and a lot for the general public"
About 30,000 Kerry supporters are expected the pack the square, watching the returns on jumbo TV screens and waiting for the presidential hopeful to declare victory.
Sherry Laemmermann, Concerned Voter
"I just hope there's some decision tomorrow night. I'm not really expecting that, I'm afraid. But I'm hopeful."
The fire department is already warning it will be forced to close off the area if too many people turn out. The Copley Square T stop both inbound and outbound will be closed from 9 p.m. tomorrow night until T service resumes in the morning.
