Ticket Troubles

Special Report: Ticket Troubles

Resident parking only…commercial vehicles only…tow zone. Break any parking rule and you'll end up with a ticket.

And with so many tickets being issued there's plenty of room for error.

Tom Timlin, Boston Transportation Department
"Sometimes mistakes are made, it’s a very difficult job being done."

So if you think you got a ticket and didn't deserve it - - you can battle it out at City Hall - - or you can log online to a new service which does the hard work for you.

Glen Bolofsky, Parkingticket.com
"We are trying to fight any ticket that is issued unfairly or is excessively priced."

Glen Bolofsky is the founder of Parkingticket.com, a service which is already working in New York, Washington and San Francisco and now Boston.

Glen Bolofsky, Parkingticket.com
"Our goal is to simple level the playing field so the average person has a fighting chance."

Glen's service analyzes information you enter into his web site - - that includes make and model of your car, where the ticket was issued and why you think it should be dismissed

Using that information his system will write a letter for you to send to City Hall with all the reasons your ticket is invalid.

Glen Bolofsky, Parkingticket.com
"You receive an e-mail from us that contains the dismissal paper work and instructions as to what to do with it."

It’s not free though. Parkingticket.com costs one half of what your violation would cost, but you get that back if your ticket isn't dismissed

Bernie Yee, Fought parking tickets
"For us, it was clearly worth it."

Bernie Yee used the service to fight a handful of tickets he received in Manhattan.

Bernie Yee, Fought parking tickets
"I’ve never done this before. I don’t know the ins and outs of what I should say in traffic court."

All but one of his tickets got dismissed right away

Bernie Yee, Fought parking tickets
"Some of the tickets were not signed, or they were illegibly signed, the tickets misidentified the car, the make, the model the color, one ticket had the wrong side of the street."

The transportation department welcomes the service to Boston, but suggests consumers try to fight parking tickets on their own.

Tom Timlin, Boston Transportation Department
"If the person is smarter enough to have a drivers license and smart enough to park in the city of Boston, there probably smart enough to write a letter saying I don’t think I deserve the ticket."

No matter which way you choose to fight your ticket - - keep in mind you need to get the process started before your time runs out.
