Special Report: Ten Worst Toys
From plush to plastic to powerful - according to consumer group W.A.T.C.H the toys on this year's 'Top Ten Worst' list all have one thing in common
James A. Swartz, Director, W.A.T.C.H.
"What we have on the list this year are some hazards that have the potential to cause severe injury even death."
This is the 32nd year the W.A.T.C.H organization has put together what they call a sampling of hazardous toys
James A. Swartz, Director, W.A.T.C.H.
"These are toys; they are embellishments in life. They are not necessities in life. They should not be in the hands of children."
Included in this year’s batch - the Pocket Rocket miniature motorcycle, which has been involved in several accidents.
Some more toys on the list - a penguin stuffed animal that has buttons that come off and an air burst rocket, which W.A.T.C.H. says could main or even kill a child.
James A. Swartz, Director, W.A.T.C.H.
"Well, there you go. I had no idea when that was going to shoot up and you saw the force of that. That’s a toy if you can believe it."
A spokeswoman for the Toy Industry Association says the toys are safe, it’s a matter of putting them in the hands of the right child.
Julie Livingston, Toy Industry Association
"It’s up to the individual parent to know how their child plays and what their abilities are and whether or not they think a toy is appropriate."
The W.A.T.C.H. organization is pushing for a law to keep dangerous toys from ever getting to store shelves.
