That Makes Cents: Holiday Stain Removal

For butter spills, scrape off the excess right away. Then make a paste of laundry powder and water to work into the stain.

Red wine spots can actually be removed. Mix a solution of half liquid detergent and half hydrogen peroxide. Pour it over the stain and let it soak. Put a towel between the stain and the back of the clothes so the stain doesn't run through.

For those really tough candy stains use a pre-soak mix of liquid detergent and a few drops of ammonia on the stain for 30 minutes. Then rinse it out with cool water. Next, soak the clothing in warm water mixed with white vinegar for about an hour, rinse well, and wash as usual.

And never dry any clothes in the dryer before stains are gone. The heat will make them stick.

Now that makes cents.
