That Makes Cents: Valentine's Day savings

Posted: 02/05/09

For a touch of romance, sprinkle flower petals around your home instead of a buying a full bouquet. A dozen red roses go for about $70, but you can ask your florist if they have any left over rose petals for free.

Order drinks and a delicious dessert at a charming bistro or cafe. The cost is usually under $20 a person. You'll get the same atmosphere as a fancy restaurant, but at a fraction of the price.

Write "I love you" messages on inexpensive paper for a home made love note. Valentine cards can run you anywhere from 99 cents to several dollars.

And don't forget, love isn't confined to February 14th. Celebrate your valentine a day later. Most seasonal gifts and candy are about 50 percent off after the holiday.

Now that makes cents.
