"You want to make sure they have a new fall wardrobe but you don't want to break the bank."

So lots of shoppers are turning to consignment or thrift stores.

"People generally find we're about a quarter to a third of retail prices."

Many consignment and resale stores, like boomerangs in Jamaica Plain, offer clothes for under 10 dollars.

"Most of it is gently used and donated by individuals, but we also have a lot of great brand new stuff donated by corporations."

They also carry everything from CDs and books to house wares.

"You can pick up a sofa, a new wardrobe and everything you need for your house for under $100, and you get that unique factor. What you have isn't going to be what everybody else got."

All of the proceeds from Boomerangs are donated to the AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts. You can go online to find consignment shops in your area...And that makes cents.
