That Makes Cents: Warehouse secrets
At Costco, look for special codes on price tags. If it ends in 97-cents, that means its been marked down. If you see an asterisk on the price tag that means it's been discontinued and is at its lowest price.
Kevin Horst, Costco
"If you see a plus or an asterisk and you're interested, you certainly want to get it because chances are it won't be here next time around."
When shopping for a big family warehouse stores can sometimes offer the best deals on the staples.
Kevin Horst, Costco
"You can save up to 13 percent on tuna fish, 20 percent on sodas, 25 percent on cereals and up to 30 percent on laundry detergents."
For many wholesale clubs, you don't have to be a member to take advantage of the deals in the pharmacy or eye care department....And some offer special discounts for customers without health insurance.
Kevin Horst, Costco
"Our pharmacy department shows some huge values. They can range anywhere from a 20 percent savings on a certain cholesterol drug to a 90 percent savings on another generic drug."
If the membership fee is holding you back try splitting it with a friend. That way you can buy super sized items together and split the cost! And that makes cents.
