Marketing group pitches Conn. to NYC businesses
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- A state tourism official says Connecticut has an image problem with New York just down the road.
Hoping to find a fix, the Connecticut Convention & Sports Bureau, which was organized last summer, made its first trip into New York City on Thursday to show off the state to corporate meeting and event planners.
Michael Van Parys is president of the group. He says New Yorkers may not be that familiar with parts of Connecticut including its shoreline, capital district in Hartford or Mystic in the southeastern part of the state.
Van Parys says the meeting planning business can boost revenue for such businesses as hotels, restaurants, limousine companies and attractions.
As the economy improves, companies are again on the road, gathering at conferences, staff meetings and other events.
