Shoppers flock to stores with longer hours

PROVIDENCE (WHDH) -- If you don't have your shopping done yet, you're not alone. Crowds of people made the mad dash to the malls over the weekend in this crunch time before Christmas.
And if you want to head out tonight, at least one retailer will be open until midnight: Macy's.
There's no shortage of people still looking for just the right Christmas gift.
This year for the first time Macy’s stores around here are open for a marathon stretch this weekend before Christmas, 7 a.m. Friday to 11:59pm Sunday.
Vice president and store manager Craig Robbins said it's the retailer's way of responding to the changing needs of consumers.
"A lot of people have really challenging schedules, traditional work schedules no more, so people like the convenience and came out,” said Robbins.
The store is also trying to make things easier for last minute shoppers with these pre-packaged gift ideas at varying prices.
"Help them get organized in terms of this is what I want to spend, and this is what I can buy," said Robbins.
For consumers there's no shortage of competition for their holiday dollars, so Macy's marathon hours are one way to accommodate. Most shoppers weren't aware the store was going to be open all hours all weekend, but some say it's something they could have taken advantage of.
Nordstrom, Target, and other retailers are also expanding their hours for last minute shoppers.
Toys ‘R’ US stores are staying open continuously until 10 p.m. Christmas Eve.
