I would like to nominate Emily Marquis a 7th grade student at the Marshall Simonds Middle School, Burlington, Ma who has and still does an amazing amount of volunteering.
First and foremost, Emily is an excellent student in all areas. She excels in writing, math, science and the arts. She excels in almost everything she undertakes. She is also outstanding in volunteering well.
Adaptiive Sports Partners of the North Country (ASPNC) youngest volunteer:
She volunteered 2011-2013, 10 – 13 years old. Volunteers are usually required to be 14. The program teaches children & adults with cognitive and physical special needs downhill skiing.
Beyond TOPS coach (Wilmington Ma) years 2008- 2013 (8 – 13 years old) The program runs during the spring and fall seasons on Saturday mornings. It consists of teaching soccer skills to children with cognitive disabilities.
Volunteered during recess in the 5 town (LABBB)* Disabilities program classroom at Francis Wymann Elementary School, Burlington, Ma. Worked with children with
cognitive special needs of all ages. Volunteered daily while in grades 3-5 (ages 8-11).
Birthday parties 2006-2011 ages 6-11 requested donations in lieu of gifts to Birthday Wishes (provide birthday parties for homeless children), Beyond TOPS, ASPNC, and Pine St. Inn.
Relay for Life Team Captain (2012) (cancer walk). The team collected books and toys and had neighborhood sales, earning approximately $500.
Jimmy Fund Fundraiser Marathon Route Walk (26.2 mi.) 2005-2013 (signed up for this year as well) ages 5-13, 5-8 years old- pieces of route and stroller, 9-13 years old walked the entire Route.
Current activities: middle school Lacrosse Team, Rock Climbing Team (Boston Rock Gym, Woburn, Ma), piano, skiing, hiking, biking running & Beyond TOPS, ASPNC
* LABBB School : participating towns - Lexington, Arlington, Bedford, Belmont & Burlington. (Pre-School & Primary grades in Burlington and High School in Lexington)
