Michaela D'Onofrio - Malden High School
I have to say I am always in awe of my daughter Michaela. She juggles school manages to keep a 4.2 GPA and still gives back to her community. Last summer she tutored kids in math at the high school, feeds the hungry at the Bread of Life kitchen, helps me out in the church office when asked, is an assistant 3rd grade teacher in our religious ed program at St. Joseph Church in Malden. Michaela is also a co-founder of the Purple Shirt Society which is a club at the high school that creates drug awareness. Most recently she was asked to put together a kick ball game for under privileged kids of Housing Families here in Malden as part of her outreach project for National Honor Society with her friend Alyssa. The game consisted of teachers vs. students and the kids got to play with the teachers at half time. Also, the girls arranged for pizza to be served before the game. Most of these kids had never had pizza before. Michaela said to me "mom, the best part of the whole project was seeing these kids faces while they were eating and watching them have fun". Michaela gets such joy out of helping others. She loves animals. If it were up to her we would take in every homeless animal on the planet. Whenever she sees a dog or cat that could possibly be lost she will always make me turn the car around to be sure the animal isn't lost. Michaela loves to dance. She got to dance in Disney World and also on the parque floor at a Celtics game. I am so blessed to be able to call Michaela my daughter. She is my class act and a bright light in our community!
