Brianna Langlois - Stony Brook Middle School
Brianna Langlois from Stony Brook Middle School
Brianna is 13-years-old and in many ways well beyond her years. She has amazing compassion and leadership qualities, not often found in children her age, not only towards her friends and family but the community as well. When much of the East Coast was battered by Superstorm Sandy, Brianna wanted to help. She initiated a fundraiser at her school collecting $500 for Breezy Point, one of the hardest hit areas. Soon after this was the Sandy Hook tragedy that compelled Brianna to want to honor the lives lost she did this by initiating a group effort at her school to create a memorial in their memory. When the Boston Marathon Bombing occurred Brianna once again went into action. She consistently wants to take a tragedy and make something good come of it. Brianna said, "This is our community this is our race just last year we were all near that finish line it could have happened to us I have to help." At first I was a little skeptical of her raising money again in our neighborhood but she said, "I got this Mom. People are going to want to help you'll see." Right she was. Brianna raised $1061.00 for the Boston One Fund by selling cupcakes door to door. She was smart and recruited a team of help. I was head baker and she had her brother and 6 friends help her with the selling. She did this over 3 weeks. Seven days dedicated to trying to make a difference. Perhaps this is her way of processing tragedies, either way I am incredibly proud of Brianna I feel she is blessed with a special gift, a trait that you can't teach or inherit and I am blessed that she makes my life so easy.
