Stage One Drama Club -- Peabody Veterans Memorial High School
Stage One Drama Club
I would like to nominate Peabody Veterans Memorial High School's Stage One Drama Club on your "Class Act" segment. This club is directed by Mr. Richard Carey, who instills in these students acceptance, tolerance, and respect. I have one daughter who recently graduated and one graduating this year, and both were fortunate to have been part of this group.
For them, being part of this group has given them a sense of belonging. Mr. Carey preaches that "The Performing Arts is all-accepting" no matter if you are a jock, a nerd, thin, heavy, gay, straight, white, black, or purple; here, (The Auditorium), you are welcome to be yourself." This carries over to the students who make up a very diverse group. They perform, fundraise, and do many community service projects together.
The Stage One Officers not only run the club, but they also keep the students informed, and set an example of how these students are expected to treat each other. They make sure EVERYONE is happy and feels accepted, which makes for a wonderful High School experience. Peabody High houses almost 2000 students. In this time of weapons, bullying and cyber crimes, this group of over 80 students stays above all of that. I think that is amazing!
