BOSTON (WHDH) -- A new series on the History Channel that’s setting rating records is also causing controversy.

Some say the character Satan in the miniseries “The Bible” closely resembles President Barack Obama.

Social media fueled the flames that Satan, in this 10-hour docudrama, has an uncanny resemblance to the president. But many in Boston couldn't see it until there's a side by side comparison.

“Obama, yeah hey, it could,” one man said.

The producer, Mark Burnett, who's behind reality shows like “Survivor” and “The Voice” says "this is utter nonsense."

His wife Roma Downey, who's the creator of the miniseries, says "Both Mark and I have nothing but respect and love for our president, who is a fellow Christian."

“I suppose if you look at the photo I’m guessing that's not the intent of the producers,” one woman said.

The producers and the History Channel point out the Moroccan actor who plays Satan -- has had other biblical roles long before Obama became president.

And a coincidence, many say, is not offensive.

“I think if that’s intentional then obviously [it’s offensive] but it could just be a coincidence,” another man said.

According to the New York Times, Roma Downey was scheduled to meet with the president at the White House for an event celebrating women in history Monday night.
