Wahlburgers opens in Hingham
HINGHAM, Mass. -- The red carpet was rolled out to celebrate the opening of ‘Wahlburger's,’ the new hamburger joint by hometown brothers Mark, Donnie and Paul.
Grab a booth at Whalburgers and get a dose of growing up in Boston.
The Wahlbergs had nine kids in a triple-decker in Dorchester, so on the menu is the ‘single-decker,’ the house they always wanted.
"It’s a lot of fun. We brought a lot of the old neighborhood with us to it," Donnie Wahlberg said.
Donnie and Mark are promoting the new place, but it’s the brainchild of their chef brother, Paul, who's keeping it local.
"We’re trying to make as much we can in-house,” he said. “All the sauces are made fresh. We have a gentleman down in Plymouth who’s baking the buns for us and everything so it’s a great product."
Burgers start at $4.50, but there are fancier products too.
"The Thanksgiving burger we all worked on together,” Donnie said. “You know, Mark likes a certain kind of stuffing so we had to use that stuffing. But I think the bacon barbeque burger is my favorite one.”
Meanwhile Big Papi doesn't have a favorite yet.
“I gotta go through menu, but I know we’ve got a lot of choices,” he said.
We're not only hoping Big Papi will stay in Boston but that Wahlburger's has staying power too.
A newly-shaven Kevin Youkilis was pretty confident.
"Donnie and Mark’s name on it, so I don't think it’ll be a bust," he said.
In fact, the family might build on this new Hingham shipyard restaurant; Mark says a reality show about the family's restaurant businesses is in the works.
"I think docu-drama,” he said. “I think it’s very compelling somebody trying to build a real business. There’s a lot of drama; there’s a lot at stake."
Mark says his brother Paul was skittish about doing a reality show, but Mark convinced him saying “I've been successful in TV, you've been successful in the restaurant business - just trust me’."
