BOSTON -- The Hub rolled out the red carpet for Tom Hanks on Wednesday night.

Not as an actor, but as the executive producer for the highly anticipated mini-series “The Pacific.”

7NEWS caught up with the star to get the scoop on his latest hit.

With a budget of more than $150 million, “The Pacific” is the most expensive mini-series ever made.

Hanks said it was all money well-spent, as he believes this is a story with staying power.

“We set out on making something like “The Pacific” understanding that it's going to sit on a library shelf,” Hanks said.

The show is a ten part mini-series slated to air on HBO. It tells the story of the Marines' actions in the Pacific Ocean during World War II.

Like he did with “Band of Brothers,” Hanks wanted to show an accurate story, but with feeling. He said memoirs were key in making the show.

“When we found that...You're beyond just maps and tactics, and dates. The trick was to find the avenue, the story inside,” Hanks said.

This was not Hanks' first trip to Boston. He previously stopped by the Hub to promote his miniseries "Jon Adams."

While Hanks said he had not time for sight-seeing on this visit, he did make time for a little grooming.

“Today i got a shave down on State Street. First time I got a shave. Those guys do a good job,”

The Pacific debuts on HBO a week from Sunday.
