BETHESDA, Md. (AP) -- People consistently remembered Sargent Shriver as a good man, which Mark Shriver says led him to write a new memoir about his father.

Sargent Shriver died last year at age 95. He spent years working as a public servant, including as the first director of the Peace Corps. Mark Shriver says he wanted to explore what made his father a good man and what made him joyful.

He writes of how the man known as "Sarge" gave his children unwavering support over the years. Mark Shriver recalls his father keeping his cool when Mark Shriver's brother Bobby was arrested on a marijuana charge in 1970. He also describes how his dad took in stride when he decided not to join the Peace Corps.

The book, titled "A Good Man: Rediscovering My Father, Sargent Shriver," was published this month.
