Local contestant proves herself on the Voice

BOSTON (WHDH) -- Things heat up on "The Voice".

A local contestant proved herself in the season's first battle round.

Scituate native Caitlin Michele went up against Melanie Martinez Tuesday night.

Melanie got picked for Team Adam, but Cee-Lo and Blake Shelton were quick to hit their 'steal' buttons to keep Caitlin in the competition.

She ultimately chose team Cee-Lo.

7News talked with Caitlin before the show.

She said she's just trying to keep things in perspective.

"I know this show is like huge. I know it’s one of the most viewed shows and kind of a pop culture thing. I’m not against pop culture, but I’m not trying to be a part of it, really. I just want to make music that people like and make enough money to eat. That’s all I care about,” said Voice contestant, Caitlin Michele.
