Jay Leno is equal opportunist with political humor
When it comes to political humor... Jay Leno tries to be an equal opportunity offender.
"I don't think anybody can figure out my political beliefs. At least, I hope not,” said Leno.
Leno said this year's campaign doesn't quite stack up comedically to what he calls the golden years.
"Clinton and Bush, fantastic!"
But he says this year's debates have provided great unscripted moments.
"I don't think anyone would have written 'binders of full of women'. Now, you say this, and people will react."
Even though the candidates provide Leno nightly targets, he said it’s never awkward having them as guests.
"I never question their patriotism. You just joke about their judgement. It's a bit like the mafia. You don't go after the wives or the families,” said Leno.
And now, Leno's got a precious few days left to savor campaign comedy.
"My trick is not to change anybody's mind. It's just to get a laugh."
