This week on Urban Update, Host Byron Barnett will talk about how on Saturday, June 29th from 10am to 2 pm Whittier Street Health Center in Roxbury will host its annual, free Men’s Health Summit. This year’s theme is Educating, Engaging and Empowering Men for the Future. Byron will be joined by Frederica Williams, who is the President and CEO of Whittier Street Health Center; and, Phillip Johnson, who is the President and Founder of Johnson Associates a leading public affairs and strategic communications consulting firm and Board Chair of Whittier Street Health Center.
Then, Host Byron Barnett will talk about how The Museum of African American History continues to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and of the Massachusetts 54th Regiment vis-à-vis the Freedom Rising. Byron will be joined by Beverly Welsh Morgan the Executive Director of the Museum of African American History; and via Skype, is Dr. Cheryl J. LaRoche, a historical anthropologist.
Closing out the week, Host Byron Barnett will talk about whether or not people achieve success through hard work, or if success is more luck than education and preparation. To learn more about how to achieve success, Byron will speak with Roderick A. Hardamon, a young, talented financial services executive who reached the upper echelon of Wall Street in just 10 years. They will talk about Roderick’s book entitled “Trying to Get There: Navigating Your Success,” which is an inspiring "one-on-one" discussion for all who are fighting the fight to be successful.
