Watch Urban Update this Sunday, May 19th at 11:30am on Channel 7 -WHDH!
This week on Urban Update, Host Byron Barnett will talk about whether it is essential for colleges to build a multicultural environment after students have been accepted to college, since the Supreme Court has recently been examining the use of Affirmative Action in college admissions. Byron will be joined by Prof. Katherine Morrison, an advisor for Curry College’s Multicultural Student Union; Dr. Debra Harkins, Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Suffolk University; Amirah Gibson, a senior at Northeastern University; and Curry College student Nicole Smith.
Then, Host Byron Barnett will discuss how after three months of sustained growth, the March NFIB Index of Small Business Optimism ended its slow climb, declining 1.3 points and landing at 89.5. Since July 2009, the Index has averaged 90.7, putting the March reading below average for this “recovery” period. Byron will talk about what these numbers mean for the lay person who is trying to keep what they have. He will be joined by Bill Vernon, the Massachusetts State Director of the National Federation of Independent Businesses; Bill Dunkelberg, NFIB Chief Economist; and Andre Porter, Executive Director of the Office of Small Business and Entrepreneurship for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Closing out the week, Host Byron Barnett will talk about one man’s journey from obesity to becoming an international ad model! Byron will talk about how this man overcame life's challenges and created a life for himself that some would not be able to fathom. Byron will be joined via Skype by Karim Ramos, who is the author of “From FAT Farm To PHAT Farm: Never Give Up!”
