Smoking manhole causes power outage in S. Boston
SOUTH BOSTON (WHDH) -- Power restored after smoking manhole knocks out power Friday evening.
Traffic lights were knocked out in the intersection near West Broadway in South Boston and a police officer was directing traffic. The lights were out all along the street and many people found themselves without power and trapped in the heat earlier this evening.
Some people said they couldn’t take it so they decided to pack up and get out, others said they would just wait it out.
“I’m actually studying for a big test that I have tomorrow morning so I just put on a head lamp and kept going. But then I came outside and realized that pretty much the whole street was out of power, so just hoping that my apartment’s still cool,” said one man.
NSTAR had the power back on by ten o’clock.
