Wedding plans changed after gov't closes parks
SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WHDH) -- From canceled football games to wedding relocations, the government shutdown is having an impact on many local residents in unexpected ways.
Boston College football fans have reason to be concerned that their upcoming homecoming game against Army is up in the air. As part of the shutdown all sports at military academies have been canceled.
Down in Washington D.C., Mike Cassesso and Mailien Le were planning on getting married at the Jefferson Memorial until they got an email telling them they should change their plans.
“We thought at most it would be like ‘oh, we can’t rake the leaves’ we didn’t think they’d be like ‘nope, putting up barriers,’” Cassesso said.
Cassesso’s family is still in Somerville and while they’re upset about the venue change for the wedding, they're more concerned about how the shutdown is affecting others.
“It’s a small blip. It’s affecting our family because it was so exciting but you have to look past that sometimes and see what’s happening with other people in the country,” Barbara Cassesso, the groom’s grandmother, said.
