Kara Kennedy's funeral set for Wed. in Washington

WASHINGTON -- The funeral for Kara Kennedy, the eldest child of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy, will be held Wednesday in Washington.

Kara Kennedy died Friday at age 51, collapsing after her daily workout at a health club.

Her family says in a statement that a wake will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Gawler's Funeral Home in Washington. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Holy Trinity Church.

Both will be open to the public but closed to the media. Burial will be private.

Kara Kennedy never sought elected office like many in her family, but she helped with her father's presidential and Senate campaigns. She worked as a filmmaker and in television and was active in an array of causes from the arts to fighting fetal alcohol syndrome.
