Shots fired during Lewiston standoff

LEWISTON, Maine -- A car chase and standoff in Lewiston in which witnesses say multiple shots were fired has ended with at least one person in custody and one person taken away in an ambulance.
The Sun Journal reports that the standoff at a parking garage at Chestnut and Mill streets ended at about 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Witnesses described seeing a vehicle speeding through downtown Lewiston earlier with police cruisers in close pursuit, at one point going the wrong way down a one-way street, before the standoff.
Witness Daren Burgess says he heard multiple shots fired.
No additional details were immediately available.
The Maine Attorney General's Office is investigating.
