NEWTON, Mass. -- Democratic Rep. Barney Frank announced his retirement Monday effective at the end of next year, closing out a congressional career of more than three decades capped by passage of legislation imposing new regulations on Wall Street.

Frank was one of the most prominent liberal voices in Massachusetts. Although he says he will remain active in public policy issues, many say it will be tough without him.

Many of Frank’s constituents in the town of Newton, where he lived for many years, said they will miss him and his powerful voice.
