PrintSunbeam Television, DIRECTV in negotiation talks
UNDATED -- The parent company of 7News is in negotiations with DIRECTV. If a deal is not made by Friday night (Jan. 13, 2012) DIRECTV viewers may not be able to see 7-NBC programming.
“We are currently negotiating renewal with DIRECTV but right now, it appears we can’t reach an agreement. If that happens, DIRECTV subscribers won’t be able to watch channel 7 or channel 56,” said Chris Wayland, WHDH/WLVI General Manager.
If WHDH-TV (channel 7) and WLVI-TV (channel 56) do not come to an agreement with DIRECTV by Friday at midnight, DIRECTV subscribers will have to watch channel 7 and channel 56 off an antenna or by switching to cable.
“It’s unfortunate it’s come to this. We take great pride in providing our newscasts and sports and entertainment shows to our viewers,” said Wayland.
A spokesperson from DIRECTV said:
“DIRECTV is working with Sunbeam Television Corporation, owners of WHDH and WLVI in Boston to keep providing its local news, sports and network programs beyond Jan. 13 when Sunbeam has told us they would remove the stations from our lineup.
We have no problem compensating Sunbeam fairly.
DIRECTV leads the video industry in settling programming disputes before any customers lose access to their favorite shows.”
Sunbeam Television has come to agreements with several cable providers.

Notice to DirecTV Subscribers:
Sunbeam Television Corporation, the parent company of WHDH-TV Channel 7 and WLVI-TV Channel 56, is currently negotiating a renewal of its carriage agreement with DirecTV. If negotiations are not successfully concluded before January 13th 2012, you will not be able to view Channel 7 and Channel 56 on DirecTV, but you will be able to receive Channel 7 and Channel 56 over the air and from other cable and satellite providers.
