Bus accident in East Greenwich injures dozens

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (AP) -- More than 30 people have been injured, one seriously, in an accident along Route 4 in East Greenwich that involved a bus bring children home from a field trip.
Police said Monday that 32 people got medical attention after the 3:30 p.m. crash, which also involved an SUV, in the northbound lanes between Route 2 and Frenchtown Road. The bus went through a guardrail and into a tree.
The deputy fire chief in North Kingstown told The Associated Press the bus driver was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. He said the other injuries were mostly minor.
A spokesman for Providence Mayor Angel Taveras tells WPRI-TV the city recreation bus involved in the accident was carrying Jewish Community Day School students on a trip to Newport.
