BROCKTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- A Brockton man who's serving a life sentence for murder is trying to change his name.
Charles Jaynes has petitioned the Plymouth Probate Court and he's citing religious reasons. Jaynes is now a Wiccan.
Back in 1997, Jaynes and another man were convicted of luring 10-year-old Jeffrey Curley with the promise of a new bike.
They then smothered the child when he refused their sexual advances.
The boy's father says he will object to the name change.
"This is all calculated by him to manipulate the system. He's very cunning and he's not stupid. He's not as smart as he thinks he is, but this is all calculated for when he gets out," said Robert Curley, Jeffrey Curley's father.
Several people besides Curley have also called the court objecting to the name change.
