SUV rolls off boat ramp in Beverly
BEVERLY, Mass. (WHDH) -- Crews worked to remove a vehicle from the water Thursday evening after it rolled off a boat ramp near River Street in Beverly.
Police said the driver had put his car into park to unload a kayak. He got out and watched it roll down to the water.
“I was pretty scared. One of my friends thought it was one of my friend’s cars, so I got pretty scared. I ran over,” said Tristen Lovett, a witness.
“I thought someone was in the car. I saw the fire department in there looking until I came closer and I’m like, ‘no one’s in there, that’s good,’” another witness said.
Dive teams jumped into the river looking for any way to get the car out and make sure no one was trapped inside.
The SUV was towed away and was drying out in a parking lot Thursday night.
David White helped pull the SUV out.
“It was kind of mind boggling, but you get through it. It’s all part of the job,” White said.
Police said the driver was upset, but is doing fine.
It is unclear why the car slipped into the water.
