PLAISTOW, N.H. (WHDH) -- A mother and her boyfriend from Plaistow, New Hampshire wanted on child abuse charges were brought into custody in Orlando, Florida Wednesday, where they remain behind bars awaiting arraignment.
Jessica Linscott and her boyfriend, Roland Dow, were arrested at the amusement park, Universal Studios around 6 p.m. U.S. Marshals say they spotted the couple while they were watching a parade and arrested the two as they were walking back to the rides.
“The minute we laid eyes on them, we took them into custody. So there’s no following them around or watching them all day long,” a U.S. Marshal said.
The news of their arrests traveled quickly to the couple’s hometown of Plaistow, New Hampshire.
“It’s just a shame that they got that far without feeling guilty or anything. Or even wanting to turn themselves in,” a woman in Plaistow said.
The couple spent two weeks on the run after dropping the woman’s son off at a New Hampshire hospital with severe head injuries and burns.
Arrest warrants were filed for Linscott and her boyfriend not long after they dropped the toddler off at the hospital. That’s when they disappeared.
In the weeks since, there have been possible sightings of the couple along the North Shore, but nothing panned out.
U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force received information Wednesday that the couple was in Orlando, and found Linscott and Dow enjoying themselves at the theme park -- a place meant for children -- adding insult to injury for a couple charged with child abuse.
After an exhaustive 2-week search, Linscott and Dow were found 1,300 miles away in Orlando where they are currently behind bars. It is currently unknown when they will be returning to their hometown of Plaistow, N.H.
Plaistow residents have expressed relief that the couple was caught.
“It’s crazy. It’s disgusting, it disgusts me,” said one Plaistow resident.
“It breaks my heart. It’s awful. It’s unconscionable,” said another resident.
U.S. marshal’s said it was a tip that led police to the couple’s location at Universal Studios.
“Just plain, just as if they were here on vacation. Just normal, no disguise, no nothing. Just dressed like normal for the weather and everything else and they were here,” said David Charles, U.S. Marshal.
Three-year-old James Nicholson is currently recovering at a New Hampshire hospital and his grandmother said earlier in the week the boy was in good spirits.
Linscott’s uncle told 7News that he doesn’t know Dow, but he hopes that his niece and her boyfriend get exactly what they deserve.
“That disgusts me. It really does. And I don’t know what she’s thinking about. You know, the little guy is so cute and I can’t stand anybody abusing children, I can’t,” said Ed Linscott.
Linscott, 23, is accused of failing to get medical attention for her son and failing to protect him. Dow, 27, is charged with assault.
The couple will be arraigned in a Florida court Thursday morning.
