Fog blamed for 5-car crash in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) -- Springfield police are blaming fog for a five-car crash that sent three people to the hospital.
The pileup was reported shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday on St. James Avenue.
Fire department officials say they had to use a mechanical device to pry open one of the cars so emergency workers could remove one of the victims.
Authorities haven't released the names of the people involved in the accident. No charges have been announced.
The conditions of the three people brought to the hospital weren't available.
