Officals to hold forum on wind power

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Massachusetts officials will hold the last of two public hearings on a study that identified potential wind power on state land.

The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday at Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield and comes after Gov. Deval Patrick called for the development of 2,000 megawatts of wind power in the state by 2020.

The state Department of Energy Resources heard public comment last week at a forum in Bourne. There, speakers mostly praised plans to harness wind energy on state-owned land while others pressed officials to keep in mind the impact on conservation areas.

Recently, the National Guard announced plans to place 17 wind turbines on the 22,000-acre Massachusetts Military Reservation.
