Crash on Sagamore Bridge snarls Cape traffic
SAGAMORE, Mass. -- The July 4 holiday got off to a rough start in Massachusetts as a serious car accident stopped traffic on the Sagamore Bridge.
Police said a 63-year-old man set off the chain reaction crash Friday afternoon.
His car crossed the center line, slamming into an oncoming car, sending his car airborne and landing on top of two other cars.
One of the vehicles flipped over and was hanging off the side of the bridge.
Police said that they had to rescue one person trapped inside a car. Three people were taken to the hospital.
At one point the backups went for more than 15 miles.
Police said the road has since reopened.
