Logan Airport joins in the fight against the flu

BOSTON -- Traveling during the holiday season can be stressful, but this year, there is more than just long lines to worry about.
Travelers will be forced to deal with the H1N1 outbreak when they head home for the holidays.
Logan Airport and airlines serving the Boston area are taking extra steps to keep passengers healthy.
“The CDC sent [some interesting signs] to us and we put them up yesterday. We’re just warning people, reminding them that there are travel-sized hand sanitizers, and other efforts you can take to help not only yourself but the passengers that are in the plane with you,” said George Naccara, TSA, federal security director.
According to Dr. Richard Zane, a member of the 7Flu Team, the flu is most commonly spread by coughing and sneezing.
Zane said to stay safe, stay three to six feet away from anyone showing symptoms.
“So I would avoid sitting next to people who are obviously sick, avoiding contact with people who are obviously sick as well,” Zane said.
Dr. Zane also said that meticulous hand washing is the key to keeping the Swine Flu from ruining holiday plans.
“You should wash your hands before and after you shake hands with anybody, see anybody, hug anybody or anytime you touch something,” Zane said.
“I’m washing my hands all the time. It seems silly but it also seems like the only thing you can do,” said one traveler.
Logan officials remind travelers that hand sanitizers will make it through security so long as they are less than three ounces.
