BOSTON -- Some of Boston’s less-fortunate got an assist from two of Celtics’ and Bruins' biggest stars.

Glen "Big Baby" Davis and Bruins defenseman Dennis Wideman were among the 200 volunteers at the Pine Street Inn helping prepare and serve more than 15,000 meals to homeless men and women from across the city.

“I come here because I like to give back to the community. I enjoy doing it I bring my daughter,” said Bill Raboin, a volunteer.

The meal is an annual tradition that depends on the hard work of volunteers.

"I'm excited to go and doing the serving so I can see people and see faces and happiness everywhere,” said Maelle Piepenburg, a volunteer.

Davis spent the morning in the kitchen as well as doing a little meet and greet.

“It just means a lot; not only to the people, but to myself. Just to get back, just being in the thanksgiving mood, just showing people love and that people care,” Davis said.

Wideman brought in some fresh pies from Mike's Pastries in the North End.

“Met some of the people that live in the shelters and they’re all really nice people they’ve just come across some bad luck. So anytime you can help them out, it's great,” said Wideman.

There was plenty of food to go around: 63 roasted turkeys, 460 pounds of potatoes, 42 gallons of gravy, hundreds of pies and loads of all of the other fixings.

“During the holiday season you want to get involved in volunteering. That’s what the spirit is...Thanksgiving and Christmas. Get out and help somebody. You'll feel like a million dollars for it,” said Frank Clearly, a volunteer.
