BOSTON -- A local sports collector claims to have the final request of Ted Williams in writing.
Sports memorabilia collector Phil Castinetti said he has an intimate letter signed by the legendary Red Sox slugger.
It’s not the original, but the story is that Williams reportedly claimed he wanted to be cremated and have his ashes spread at sea.
“When I really got into reading it, I couldn't believe you know, what it said...It pretty much explains where he wanted to be cremated and where the ashes were to be sent, and you know, nothing ever happened like that,” said Castinetti.
Castinetti said the letter describes in detail Ted's wishes after his death. The sports collector got the copy from a friend.
Williams, who died in 2002, was moved to a cryogenics facility in Arizona where his body was frozen. His family said that's what the Splendid Splinter wanted. However, this letter gives very different instructions.
The sports memorabilia collector said he plans to make some copies of the letter and wants to sell them.
