Police investigating Brockton shootings, 1 dead

BROCKTON, Mass. -- Police are investigating two shootings in Brockton.
One shooting occurred at a bar, the other at a mall. They happened within 15 minutes of each other.
Police said one person was shot in the leg at the Westgate Mall in Brockton around 5 p.m. Tuesday evening. As police launched a search for that suspect, another shooting occurred at a bar across town.
The person shot at the mall sustained non life-threatening injuries. Two people were shot at the bar, one fatally.
Police believe that the shootings are unrelated.
Michelle DuBois, Brockton City Councilor said she was shocked by the scene at the Westgate Mall.
“The shooting at the mall is a complete and utter shock. We’ve never had any problems like that in the mall or in that area, so it really is devastating,” said DuBois.
She went on to say that she was not so surprised by the shooting at the Lit Family Bar on Ames Street.
“In this area, these bars have been more or less ruining the neighborhood and allowed to ruin the neighborhood. It is really a tragedy but sadly, I’m not surprised,” said DuBois.
Police were at the Lit Family Bar with a K-9 unit on Tuesday night after the shootings occurred. As of 10:30 p.m., there was no word on any arrests in either shooting.
