Alleged Hyde Park attack victim also Haiti survivor

BOSTON – The alleged victim of a recent attack near Hyde Park is also a survivor of the Haiti earthquake.
The woman, who didn’t want to reveal her identity, was attacked near the commuter rail station Wednesday night.
It was the second unfortunate event for the woman in the past few weeks.
The woman was visiting family in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti when the deadly earthquake hit. She suffered injuries, and several loved ones died.
Ten days after she arrived in Boston, she says she was attacked while she waited for the train. She said a man with a knife approached her. When she told him she had no money, he punched her in the face and took her purse.
The woman said she told the man about her Haiti experience, but he had no sympathy.
“He said ‘I told you, give me your money!’” she said in an interview.
Police heard the woman scream and saw a man run away.
“They fact that they heard the woman’s screams for help speaks for the fact that they were close by,” said Boston Police Officer Jamie Kenneally.
Police caught the man, and recovered a knife and a wallet.
The woman was treated at the train station and was able to identify the suspect.
Walter Harris, 48 of Quincy, has been charged with armed robbery as well as assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
“I pray for God to change him,” his alleged victim said.
