Turkey tumbles into Lowell teacher’s windshield

DRACUT, Mass. -- A big bird caused some serious damage to a Lowell driver’s vehicle.
Teacher Rick Newman was driving to work on Tuesday morning when a large turkey hit his windshield.
“He almost came through my windshield, I had glass over me and I couldn't see so I had to pull over on the side of the road,” Newman said.
Newman said he believes the big bird likely weighed about 20 to 25 pounds.
While the Lowell teacher was initially shocked by the accident, his fellow teachers have been giving him a hard time about the turkey tale.
“I've gotten feathers, gobble, gobble, you name it,” Newman said.
All jokes aside, he said he is thankful the incident wasn't worse.
“Thank God there were no cars behind me because I had to stop right away,” he said.
Newman said that while he travels the road every day to and from work, this is the first time that he's ever seen a turkey.
