Kennedy honored by LGBT community
BOSTON -- Senator Edward Kennedy is honored by Fenway Community Health for his commitment to the gay community.
Kennedy was honored last night as the recipient of the Congressman Gerry Studds Award at the 2008 Men's Event.
The Studds Award honors individuals of integrity and selflessness who embody the spirit of service and provide positive leadership for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
Kennedy is one of only a handful of senators who have publicly proclaimed their support for same-sex marriage rights and has been a leader in expanding hate crimes legislation to include sexual orientation and gender.
He has also fought to expand Medicare coverage, protect a woman's right to reproductive choice and reform the American health care system.
