Teen arrested for allegedly shooting cab driver in Brockton

Teen arrested for allegedly shooting cab driver in Brockton

BROCKTON, Mass. -- A teenager told his friends about shooting a cab driver in the back of the head, a prosecutor said Tuesday as the youth was arraigned on murder charges.

Adilson Neves, 17, is accused of killing Edward Conley, 56, early on the morning of Feb. 16.

Neves gave a taped confession to police, describing how he lured Conley onto a dead-end street, got in his cab and shot him in the back of the head, Assistant District Attorney Lewis Armistead Jr. said during Neves' arraignment in Brockton District Court.

Armistead said investigators traced a blood-splattered sneaker found at the crime scene to Neves.

Neves pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, attempted armed robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm. He was ordered held without bail.

"He's very anxious and nervous about the charges against him," said his attorney, Arthur L. Kelly.

Kelly said whether Neves made statement to police voluntarily "is something that needs to be evaluated."
