Owners of $1.3 million home accused of failing to fix lead risks

Owners of $1.3 million home accused of failing to fix lead risks

DEDHAM, Mass. -- A Wellesley couple whose 4-year-old daughter was found with high lead levels now say they'll comply with a state order and fix the paint violations in their $1.3 million home.

Charles and Jane Ellis face criminal charges after the state said they failed to address the lead paint problem. The couple had argued removing lead paint in their 5,000-square-foot home could stir up lead dust particles and increase risks to their three children.

They claim the elevated lead levels in their daughter came from a necklace.

The couple had been scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Dedham District Court but the hearing was postponed until April 29.
