State Police release updated sketch of Esplanade sexual assault suspect

BOSTON -- Police have released a color enhanced sketch of the man they say is responsible for the attacks of two women in Boston last summer and another woman two years ago.

The unknown black male is in his mid-20s to mid-30s, standing approximately 5'8" to 5'10", weighs about 220 pounds with medium to large build and has a shaved head.

In July of 2006, the suspect reportedly sexually assaulted a 30-year-old woman in the area of Joe Moakley Park in South Boston.

On June 16, a 20-year-old woman was jogging along the Charles River Esplanade on footpath near the Massachusetts Avenue bridge when she was sexually assaulted.

On July 29, a 20-year-old woman was abducted at knife-point while walking along Beacon Street and Hereford Street. The suspect then forced her to walk a few blocks up to a footbridge and over to the Esplanade, where he then sexually assaulted her. After the assault the suspect reportedly stole her camera and phone. He then walked her back to the Beacon Street area and set her free.

"The assaults have all been in the early morning or late evening hours on a weekend," Sgt. Brian Howe, Massachusetts State Police, said. "They've generally been in the Kenmore Square area of Boston. The females were usually approached from behind. They were either forced to go to a desolate area or a deserted area or one of the local alleys or areas withing the vicinity where the assault actually occurred."

Police are also asking for witnesses of the three incidents to come forward.

Anyone with information about the man or incident should contact the State Police Barracks in Boston at 617-727-6780 or call Boston Police CrimeStoppers tip line at 1-800-494-TIPS. Witnesses can also text the word "tip" to CRIME (27463).

With the warmer weather coming, police are urging people to be aware of their surroundings and to never travel alone.
