Search suspended for man in Boston Harbor

BOSTON -- The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a 60-year-old Quincy man who fell from a motorboat into Boston Harbor.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Connie Terrell said the search was suspended at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, a day and half after Anthony Tufo was reported overboard near Deer Island.

Tufo, a court officer at Quincy District Court, was returning with a group of friends to Weymouth after dinner in Winthrop on Thursday.

Winthrop fire chief Paul Flanagan told The Boston Globe that Tufo walked to the boat's bow to remove the bumpers shortly after leaving port, and possibly slipped or had a heart attack.

He said Tufo had not been drinking.

A Coast Guard cutter continued looking for Tufo overnight Saturday.

Terrell said the search was suspended shortly after a Coast Guard helicopter search at first light Saturday morning.
