Alleged threats keep accused NH killer in jail
BRENTWOOD, N.H. -- A New Hampshire teen charged with killing a friend by shooting her in the back will stay in jail until his trial after prosecutors accused him of making threats against witnesses from jail.
Prosecutors say 19-year-old Adam Mentus of Danville threatened to "smash" the sister of Deidre Budzyna, the 20-year-old Atkinson woman killed last month while sitting in an SUV in Sandown.
While in jail, Mentus is not supposed to talk to witnesses of the shooting and a friend who allegedly bought the gun, but prosecutors say he made many calls, trying to get stories straight and threatening to harm witnesses.
A judge revoked Mentus' bail on Wednesday. He is charged with manslaughter.
