Middle school student hit by car in Danvers

DANVERS, Mass. -- A middle school student was hospitalized after she was hit by a car Monday morning.

Police said the 11-year-old victim was in the crosswalk heading to the bus stop on Centre Street.

The girl suffered a broken femur, a broken pelvis, and 11 staples were put in the back of her head, according Bud Halloran, the girl's grandfather.

The young girl is a student at Richmond Middle School.

The girl's father said his daughter is in great sprits after undergoing surgery at Children's Hospital in Boston.

Police said the driver claims he didn't see the girl.

The driver has been cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, but is not facing any charges at this time.
