Rings stolen from woman's body returned

BROCKTON, Mass. -- The family of an 89-year-old Brockton woman says wedding rings that were taken from her hand after she died at a hospital have been anonymously returned.

The daughters of Evelyn DeFlavis told The Enterprise of Brockton that they got word on Monday the rings were mailed to Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center, where their mother died Sept. 10. The family said hospital security turned the rings over to police, who are investigating.

DeFlavis had worn the gold wedding band and diamond engagement ring for 58 years. Her husband, Frank, died six years ago.

Her daughter Marla Seelye said she believes the rings were returned because of news coverage, not because whoever took them had a change of heart. Another daughter, Amanda Doonan, said the family is "very happy" their mother's rings were returned.
