Police arrest teen for making homemade teddy bear bomb
BROCKTON, Mass. -- Police arrested a 15-year-old boy after they said he made a homemade bomb, attached it to a teddy bear, and left it on a local street Monday evening.
Police said when they arrived to Florence Street there was a teddy bear in the road with a plastic bottle sticking out of the bear's mouth. The bottle was filled with a solution that had the potential to explode.
The State Police bomb squad detonated the device. No one was injured, but neighbors were outraged.
"A kid could walk up the street -- a little girl, little boy -- pick it up, and that's the end of it," said Brady Golson, a concerned neighbor. "It's ridiculous."
The boy, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, was arrested and charged with possessing an explosive device and disturbing the peace. The boy is being held until Thursday at which point he will answer to a judge.
"I'm not sure why he did this," said Kimberly Bohn, the boy's mother. "I didn't raise him like this. So I don't understand why he would have gone to this extent to get attention, if that's what you want to call it, if that's why he did it."
7News has learned the boy may be connected to making four other bombs that were denoted by fire officials in Brockton on Sunday.
Police are investigating.
