City workers caught drinking on job, stealing
BOSTON -- Two city employees were forced out of their jobs after they were caught on camera taking advantage of the city.
Paul Hamm, of Mattapan, was caught on camera routinely filling up his gas tank from a pump at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Mattapan that was supposed to be reserved for city vehicles. Hamm allegedly stole more than 20 gallons of gas per week since April.
Hamm was also caught drinking on the job with his supervisor Donald J. Griffis, of Dorchester.
Authorities said they routinely skipped out on their job, taking two-and-a-half hour lunch breaks, recently as much as five days a week.
"It's beyond unacceptable behavior, the guy is stealing from the taxpayers on a weekly basis, and his supervisor, due to their relationship and lack of supervision, was allowing it to go on" Jeff Conley, of the Boston Finance Commission.
Hamm, who has 22 years on the job, resigned on October 28 and Griffis who has been with the city for 31 years, was fired on Friday.
